Definition of stress
Burnout is a special case of stress experience that is
related to work and work outcomes. Burnout is described as a stress response
that results in negative work related attitudes and behaviors (Schaufeli &
Enzman, 1998). Maslach, Jackson and Leiter (1996) extended the definition of
burnout which they operationalized in the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). They
stressed that burnout is a psychological phenomenon that occurs in healthy
